Set in traditional English parkland, and yet only a mile from the centre of Huddersfield, this beautiful natural valley has been largely unchanged for five centuries. Containing some wonderful examples of mature oak, ash and beech trees, set within a belt of woodland, and surrounded by a centuries old stone wall, its use now as a natural burial ground will help to preserve it for future generations.
In addition as the burial areas are filled, further trees will be planted to continue the site tranquillity for the future.
What is a natural burial ground?
Natural burial grounds are managed along ecologically sound principles to create living memorials. Worked in areas of circa ¼ acre Rose Hill NBG will continue to be planted with trees and flowers to provide a regenerated habitat for both flora and fauna and provide a more natural alternative to traditional cemeteries which will enhance the environment.
Cemeteries do not have to be obvious places, nor sombre and forbidding. All of us at some stage in our lives, have to cope with the death of a relative or someone dear to us. The choice of a final resting place is an important decision, and how much better when it is in reality a shrine to nature from which we all originate.
An increasing number of people feel dissatisfied with the formality of traditional cemeteries and would prefer a more natural alternative. They are also disturbed by the lack of security, we at Rose Hill NBG, will endeavour to create a secure and peaceful environment.
